What made the teenage paparazzo so successful? What was his downfall? What does this illustrate about our culture? Other thoughts...

  1. Things that made the Teenage paparozzo so successful was his age. Because he was so young, it made Austin stand out from the other paparazzi in hollywood. It made people and celeberties pay more attention to him. Also, his passion for this made him successful. His passion made people take him seriously as a paparazzi and not just some kid with a camera.

  2. Since we discovered during this video that the teenage paparazzo did not love being a paparazzo, I think the main reason he was so successful was because he was a kid. The celebrities would reveal themselves to the camera in order to ask him how old he was, and so he could always get a good clear shot.

  3. The teenage paparazzo was so successful because he was unusual. It was not typical for a 13 year old kid to be out competeing with 40 year old men for pictures of celebrities. He did not live the typical life style of a kid his age, and this made his story unique. His downfall was himself. He was too focused on being famous for himself rather than for what he was doing. This entire story illistrates the selfishness of society, as well as our obsession with famous people. Our culture revolves around these people, and thrives off of what they do even though they're just like us. I believe our society needs to re-prioritize what we value. Even when the author of the book said he interviewed 700 middle school kids, 42% of them wanted to be a celebrities personal assistant. Not even their friend, just someone to be in their presence. The next generation now has their values deprioritized, and it's actually really sad how we operate as a culture now.

  4. The overall concept of a teenage paparazzo is very unique which made Austin so successful. People were interested in Austin, especialy Adrian. Adrian wanted to know what Austin was thinking and essentialy what went into being a paparazzo at such a young age.

  5. I think what made him so successful was that he was a little kid, and alot of the clebs. thought that was cute. I think that the downfall to everything was that he got so caught up in all the fame and attetion that he was getting and it went right to his head. I htink it tells us that your culture is being comming to reliable on the internet and all this suff and its sad that we cant go thru a day with out that stuff.

  6. Austin became famous for his work as a paparazzo because he was so young compared to the normal paparazzi.

  7. I think that the friends of Austin who were also paparazzi helped him out a lot. They provided him with transportation and lots of things that he needed. More importantly, the ignorance of his mother was helpful because she let him run around at all hours in L.A. Without her being a complete idiot, he would not have been able to do whatever he wanted.

  8. The Teenager's friend helped him be succesful, his friend tried to help him be a journalist, he wasn't that interested though. He wanted to be more than a paparazzi, famous for something other than that.

  9. The teen paparazzo was so successful because of his age. Seeing a little boy taking pictures of you seems harmless compared to older men. His youth definitely appeals to female stars because when they see him they think how cute he is and are inviting rather then rude and ignorant. They don't think a young kid can do much harm, most of them don't even realize he's a paparrazzo at first because there just aren't teenage paparazzo.

  10. I agree with Emma when she said Austin's own downfall was himself. He was too focused on being famous himself that he lost his real dream.

  11. Austin was very dedicated to getting a good picture because he would always put his job first, before schoolwork and sleep. I think he hit his downfall when he started caring less about taking pictures and more about having his picture taken. When Austin realized that he wanted to be famous, he started acting like he was and focused less on his job. He became even more superficial.

    ReplyDelete
  12. What made austin so successful was basically his exploitation towards celebrities. He was known as a person that took pictures of celebrities just like any other paparazzi the only difference was he was only 14.

    ReplyDelete
  13. In my opinion, the fact that the teenage paparazzo was only 14, made him very successful. Since he is only 14 teen the famous people thinks he's cute so they let him take more pictures of them. Other paparazzi are older so the famous people won't let the older paparazzi take pictures of them.

    ReplyDelete
  14. His downfall was his personality. The movie portrayed him as a snobby teenager. In our society, we base things on what someone does and how someone acts, and he wasn't looked upon in a great way because of his self-centered personality.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Austin's downfall was the attention he was getting. With the attention, his confidence and attitude was changing and becoming cocky. The only thing he cared about was paprazing and was doing things that young teens normally wouldnt do.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This kid was only good at what he did because he stood out. People noticed him and gave him special attention because he was so different from everyone else. His downfall was being seen with Adrian. Other paparazzos started to reject Austin. Adrian also may have influenced Austin to adopt a cocky attitude.

  17. Another thing that made Austin so successful was his push over mother. Her parenting was awful. You can trust a kid as much as you want, but letting him go out till 4 in the morning for a 13 year old doesn't make it right. You have to earn your responsibility and respect and that comes with age. The way he talked to his mother was not respectful at all, and the fact she was letting him do whatever he wants and say whatever he wants was completely ineffective parenting. There was no punishment for his attitude at all. He was able to "be motivated and do it all on his own" because she let him. I honestly don't think that kind of career just comes when you have a good parent. You need to learn how to respect your parent before you learn to respect other people, especially celebrities.

  18. The determination shown by the teenage paparazzo made him very successful. He wanted to take pictures and that is what he did. His age also made him successful because he was so much younger than the other paparazzi.

  19. Without the teenage paparazzo shooting Adrian Grenier early on, he would have never had the opportunity to become as well known as he did. Adrian is the reason Austin became so successful as a 13 year old paparazzo. Some of his downfalls would be how in the beginning he was a good, hardworking student but as time went on he began to forget about his studies and stay out all hours trying to shoot the perfect pictures. This illustrates our culture on how media is beginning to take over people's lives and starting to become the most important thing. Research showed that kids spend 44.5 hours a week either watching tv, going on the computer, etc.

  20. The thing that made teen paparazzo so successful is that it changed a little boys life. And theres one less paparazzi there to exploite celebrities' privacy. We also got an inside look about why and how he went abou tbeing a paparazzi. I was used to seeig that they were just creepy scumbags trying to get some extra cash, but when you think about it, its just a regular job and a lot of people do it, not even actual paparazzi.

  21. Austin was so successful as a teenage paparazzo because of his young age. Like others said, it is not typically heard of for a teenager to be a paparazzo. His story made him unique and interestint to the point where people wanted to know more about him. Celebrities gave him more attention than other paparazzo's due to this, giving him more success in the process. His downfall was that he became caught up in the fame and desired fame more than success. After a while, he wanted to be the one on the other side of the camera and thought it would be cool to become a celebrity. I think this tells us that our culture has lost priorities. We are now more concerned with becoming famous, than gaining success. Like stated in the movie, when a survey was taken, the majority of children would rather be a celebrity assistant than the president of a successful college.

  22. In my opinion, personality iseverything, and Austin came off as an anooying, self-centered brat.

  23. I agree with Jordan, I think it really helped Austin that he was just 14, and celebrities thought he was cute and were very interested in him and what he was doing. Austin went through a downfall as he started to become obsessed with fame and realized that's what he wanted the most. The attention he was getting made him hungry for more fame 24/7. Adrian Grenier recognized that Austin was letting all his attention to go his head.

  24. What made this paparazzo so successful is first he was only fourteen years old and celebrities thought he was so cute and some of them would stand there and take pictures for him. His downfall was that when he became famous it made him not care about some of the otehr stuff that was important before like school. He was always up late either out taking pictures or at home looking at pictures. I personally wouldnt want to be a celebrity because when your a celebrity, you have no privacy because everytime you walk out your door theres always paparazzi there to take your picture and some of them make up stories about you.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree with Emma and McKenzie, his downfall was himself. He wanted to be famous so bad that he forgot what he really wanted, to take pictures of famous people.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree with jessica, it was his age also that made him famous. You do not usually see a little kid like him as a paparazi.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Austin's downfall was himself. His attitude was brought out by the attention Aidan gave him, but that wasn't Aidan's fault. Austin was fine in the begining, but as soon as the opportunity of fame arose, his attitude shifted omplcetely. In the end, he came back to his usual self and was ready to persue a career he loved, not a career that would make him famous just for the sake of being famous. He wanted to earn it again, which is what really makes someone stand out.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree with Emma on how Austin's parenting was awful. His mother let him stay out as late as he wanted, some nights bringing girls home at all hours of the night. If his mother wasn't so easy going, he probably wouldn't be where he is now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What made Austin so popular was the fact that he was 13 when he started to paparazzo. If this had been a normal paparazzi Adrian would have never noticed him, nor would have any other celbrities, he would of been just any other paparzzi. His ultimate downfall was himself, he was selfish and jsut wanted to be a celebrity, he was a jerk to everybody. This illustrates our society as one that obbsess over celibrities.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The teenage paparazzo was sucessful because he was able to maintain his profession despite the obstacles, and he was out of the ordinary because of his age. The Society in which we live in is absorbed by media and we as people are so absorbed in i tthat we forget common values and fame.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This movie does illistraute our culture becuase it shows how people these days are obbsessed with the media and celebrtys. Many people wish to be famous and feel as though they are not important unless their face is on the cover of some magazine. It shows how peoples values have decressed in modern times.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think the worst thing about this video was when, like Emma said, that one man talked about how 42% of Middle School kids would rather be the assistant to a celebrity, then actually have a powerful position in our country. This just shows where our generation's values lye. We only seem to care about famous people's lives and not the important government issues. This explains why there are so many reality shows on television today, because all people want to do is watch other people's lives instead of living their own.

  33. I agree with kellyn, the media took over. He cared less and focused more on paparazi than his school work.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree with Kellyn in the sense that if Austin never shot Adrian Grenier, he wouldn't have filmed this documentary, however, I do think somebody else would have taken it upon themselves to pay such attention to Austin. Austin's story is unique no matter what and even if Adrian Grenier payed no attenetion to him, I feel as though we would have heard of his story somehow. It amazes me that such a young boy could become so successful doing something that mostly adults do. It is a dangerous job and for such a young boy to take on that responsibility amazes me.

  35. I agree with Nick. I think if i were to be famous it would be for something i did, not like Paris hilton who is famous "just for being famous." You have absolutely no privacy and everyone is always there. I don't think being a pararazzi would be fun. You're not living your life. You'r eliving the life a celebrity is living, because you follow them around and take pictures of them and basically wish you were them. It's about feeling like you're with them and feeling like you have a connection, as insiginificant and stupid as that connection is.

  36. He also had put himself out there enough that he was able to be discovered and get a taste of fame himself. This made him learn new aspects of the celebirty world and have a taste of fame himself... Now he can respect and understand the violations in which Celebirties feel.

  37. I agree with Emma who said the downfall was himself. He got so caught up in the paparazzi business and became very self absorbed. I don't think it was just him though, I feel like his mother was partially responsible for his downfall. He was young and that was the lifestyle he was brought up into. His mother raised him in Hollywood so you could not really expect a different outcome being in that society 24/7. His mother let him go out at all hours of the night to shoot a photo. As the film showed, the paparazzi business can be very dangerous especially for a thirteen year old boy. Although it is great to give him freedom, I feel sheprobably should have protected him more in order to grow up in a more normal lifestyle.

  38. I also agree with Kaylee, Austin came off as a self-centered little brat who only thought about himelf. He treated everyone like he was better than them, even though he was much younger than mostly everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  39. This movie illistrated that our culture is not only sefish but also "obsessed" with famous people. As Emma stated, when 700 students were surveyed, 42% of them would rather be a personal assistant to a famous person rather than something like a CEO. This is shocking because the assistant does stuff like carry bags for the afamous person, they are like the slave. This proves how much society looks up to celeberties. It shows that society likes the selfishness. They want to be known, they want to have association with someone well known. Even though it is not healthy, society indeeds thrives off of the celeberties. This documentary illistrates that our society is dependent on others. People look up to celeberties wheather they are good role models or not. This just shows that the "gossip" is more important than what the famous person actually does.

    ReplyDelete
  40. What made Austin so sucsessful was the fact that he was so young, people didnt expect someone that young to be in the paparazzi buisness. They were intrigued and let him take pictures or things like that. His downfall is when taking pictures of celebrities became an obsession, he was clearly good at taking pictures of other things but he decided to take pictures of celebrities for money. Also when he started becoming so self obsorbed and inconsiderate. This shows how alitte taste of being famous can do to people, our society. It shows how our society is absorbed with celebrities and how theyre lives are.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree with Armaan, if Austins mother had actually been a mother figure to Austin, then Austin may not have been as devoted to paparazzo.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I agree with Jordan Scott. This movie shows that our culture is obbsessed with the media and famous people. A lot of people wanted to be famous really badly.

    ReplyDelete
  43. His downfall was his own actions. He got so caught up with himself to the point that the people he knew didn't want to associated with him, like his mom. When he seemed to realize what he was, he became more successful as a person.

    ReplyDelete
  44. He was also so dedicated to his work. As seen in the movie Austin stayed up numerous nights for long periods of time just looking at pictures.

I feel Austin's downfall was he didnt realize what kind of person he was growing into based on his job. From the begining of the documentary to the end, you could see how austin started to change. He seemed to get more and more spoiled and cared only for himself and not others. He was all or his work and not for anything else. He was also starting to take his very little fame to his head. almost as if he was getting over confident.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree with Kellyn and Kaylee Austin was a selfish, whiny little kid, that was immature, and had needed alot of growing up to do.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree with Jess when she said Austin's mother had an affect on his lifestyle. Austin's mom may have not known it at the time, but letting him go out at three in the morning probably did not benefit him because that is not what kids his age usually did.

    ReplyDelete
  47. As others have said, the film illustrates how obsorbed our society is with the media. It shows how much the concepts of celeberties and fame are taking over and its becoming an obsession.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This demonstrated how our society is obsessed with celebriteis and their is a sense of envy where we want to be like them. That guy that took the survey from the middle schoolers shows that over 40% of kids wanted to be the dancing monkey of celebrities. They passed up the greatest jobs in the world like the CEO of the most successful colleges just to be known with celebrities. Also, tests show how kids are spending so much of their time paying attention to media and staring at screens. Our society is in need of a drastic change with our habits.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I cant believe that Austin was brave enough to go out in the middle of the night and take pictures of celebrities with the other paparazzi. Paparazzi are pretty physical when it comes to trying to get their pctures which makes it dangerous for Austin because he was only 14 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with Emma. They make fame seem so much more exciting than it accually is....there job is too smile and too look happy, it does not mean they accually are. We as humans need a sense of security in our lives, and celebirties don't have that. As soon as they walk out of there house they are targets by all.

    ReplyDelete
  51. This story illustrates our society's lust for being recognized and being famous. Our culture is obsessed with the individual and knowing all about some other person.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think another downfall to Austin was his parenting. I can't imagine my parents ever giving me that much freedom at such a young age. Not only is he a young teenager, but he lives in a pretty dangerous area. As seen in the film, there are many drunken fights on teh streets and the paparazzi would do just about anything to get a shot even if it requires fighting other paparazzi. While he has become quite successful, I do not feel as though she should let him go off on his own at all hours of the day/night. It's a very scary world, especially for Austin considering the circumstances.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah he was a jerk.

I'd like to go to Hollywood, beat him up and steal his camera.

But the media influences us by showing all these happy shiny pictures in which the celbreties are smiling, happy and good looking. Too many of these pictures make people think that they have to be like them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I agree with Armaan about how our society is obsessed with celebrities. Sure celebrities are always the people you want to see or meet because there either good looking or just a popular actor. Why does a celebrity get so much more attention than anyone else? Is it just because they are on tv?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Although I feel it was good how dedicated Ausin was, I feel like him being full of himself made him seem like a brat.

Something that shocked me was that Austin even said that the paparazzi liked to twist the story.

    ReplyDelete
  56. This film made me realize thatwe need to leave the celbrities alone. After seeing all the different celebrities talk about there feelings towards the way they are getting exploided, you start to realize they are just normal people that want there privacy sometimes. I feel bad that they dont get anytime for a normal life based on how most of the population treats them.

    ReplyDelete
  57. His downfall was that once he was in the limelight for his photography he became selfish just like the people he was shooting.

my post is awkwardly short because it got deleted......cough i should still get credit cough

    ReplyDelete
  58. I agree that this film shows teh average person's desire to be famous. I don't consider fame as being all that great. It obviously has many positive aspects with it, but by becoming a celebrity, you have no choice but to adjust your lifestyle and must always remain on your toes. Their lives are constantly being twisted and it is amazing to me that this is the lifestly eour population envies.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I feel that Adrian had large segements in this documentary of Ausin because Adrain essentialy set up some of Austin's fame. Adrian was the one who was first curious of what went through Austin's head as a fourteen year old paparazzo.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I agree with McKenzie because adrian definatley had an influence on austins fame. Adrian helped blow up his ego, but it was an accident.
