Do you know what is going on?

Follow the link to the NY Times news quiz.  You may take the quiz for 5/9 or 5/10 (or both!).  Discuss your response on the blog: How did you score?  What story is the most interesting/newsworthy (why)?  What other important news topics do you think should have been on the quiz?

    I recieved a 1 out of 5 on the quiz. Not a surprise, I mean I really know nothing about politics or any of the questions they asked me. Lucky guess...
    I think the most important one though was the one about the Pakistan government, considering Osama Bin Laden just was killed.
    Maybe more questions about him in particular could be important.

    THe most intresting one in my opinion was the one abnout the misssissippi river flodding. It is the one that has the most effect on us and is closest.

    I got a 4 out of 5, the one i got wrong was the one about Greece, and its railways, race tracks, and national lotteries. I was kind of surprised they had had that on the quiz, I don't really hear much of that. But besides that the quiz incorporated many of the main topics that are in todays news.

    I think that it is newsworthy because most Americans aren't fllowing current event, and probably don't know the answer to most of these questions too. I only got 20% on both of the quizzes, because I had to guess for every question. So those right answers were just luck...

    I agree with mcKenzie, We should not have to know this. As you can see noone knows all of this, and yes very complex and confusing.

    I realized that I only know what is going on in the world if it comes up at school. I didn't really learn any of the news on my own.

    I honestly can not think of any cureent news topics that could be on the quiz. the quiz seemed to cover most of the important news affairs that are currently going on right now.

    I got a 3/5 on today's test. I didn't think this was actually that bad since I never read the newspaper in the morning and don't watch the news too often.

    I feel the quiz covered a wide variety of topics, escpcieally the ones that are really important, such as bin Laden, and whats going on in Syria.

    I thought that the Osama story was the most important because his death is one of the biggest topics that conserns the US right now. I had heard about how they were holding his three widows under custody since he was killed.

    I agree with McKenzie, I didn't expect to score a 5/5 on both of these quizzes because it's not that common for a high schooler to follow EVERYTHING that goes on in the news world.

    The most interesting topic on the quiz I think would be about Pakistan. Since recently Bin Laden was assassinated, the government of Pakistan is newsworthy.

    I scored a 3/5 on yesterday's quiz as well. I think the most newsworthy one to me is the Lakers losig because everyone hates them. They were going for a 3peat in the NBA Finals and I didn't one them to win whatsoever. It is also the end of the storeid career of Phil Jackson.

    i got a 1 out of 5 and it really doesnt suprise me because i know absolutly nothing about politics. I know this stuff is important but im 16 years old. why do i need to know about any of this stuff. i think that it would be more important to me when im in my 20's or something.

    Like many others, I received a 1/5 on the quiz. Many of the questions confused me and it's really no surprised because I don't have that great of an idea as to what is going on in the world today. I think that the most important story was the one about the Pakistan government because like Shelby said, the recent events revolving around Osama Bin Laden. I think that more questions should have been put on the quiz regardning this issue because it is highly important to our country and had a major impact in the world.

    I took the May 9th test and got a 3/5 too. All of the questions were very random that I did not have any prior knowledge about whatsoever. It really shows how unaware of the the news i really am....

    I agree with John, the quiz covered a lot a different topics, especially the ones that are more important than others. If it was on only one topic it would be less interesting.

    The Mississippi river story was the most newsworthy because it is a national matter that has the attention of the nation. The government needs to do something about this ASAP.

    I kind of feel bad that I dont know any of the current events going on right now, but the one that I found most interesting is the one where in the past5 months the pakastan have angered the CIA with the media, I feel that is newsworthy because the CIA is usually really confedential.

    Like Kellyn and Mckenzie said, I think it would be extremely rare to score a 5/5 on one of the quizzes. This is because not many people our age look into current events because it doesn't interest us as much as it would interest an adult.

    On both tests, I did very poorly, I got a 2/5. Most of the questions were confusing. As I mentioned before, I feel that the hardest questions are the ones about the countries because I do not really follow other countries. However I do know major news like Osama being dead. Other questions, particularly involving sports were on the easier side because peronaly, I could relate to these becasue I like sports.

    Also, we usually do not know about something the day it happens. We are at school, it's not like we sit in front of our T.V's all day watching MSNBC...We would probably get better scores if the quiz was about last weeks happenings.

    These questions were all about very newsworhty articles, but I think the questions were very specific that really don't help out with understanding the article. For example, the article about the MIsissippi Floods was probably one of the most newsworhty but the question asked about how mnay feet above sea level the flood was, which would not help people understand about the situattion.

    I agree with Kellyn and John, these quizes had a variety of different topics. I feel that the most interesting article was the one about the Kentucky Derby mostyly because I knew what was being discussed. I watched the Kentucky Derby so I knew what the topic was about.

    There should be more questions on this quiz that kids could relate to better. The questions on these quizes were very difficult and I do not feel that kids our age should know all of these questions. Maybe more sports related questions or things kids enjoy should be included. Nevertheless, it would still be good to incoorporate "world related" questions.

    Current events (at least about politics)are not really followed by people of our age. We should try to at least have some vague idea as to what is going on around us in the news though.
