Reflect on the Galella film: Discuss sources and reporting methods. What picture was it intended to illustrate?

  1. They interviewed other paparazzi, and people whho knew a lot about art.

  2. I think the reporting and sources for this movie must've been pretty good considering they got to follow him around to his events, and they even got access into his room with his millions of pictures. I think that if they got to talk to him and other people close to him multiple times as well as people who had different opinions on him was very good for the movie. Some people felt he was "sleazy and disgusting" while others admired him, and it's important to have that variety involved in a film. They got the information from multiple sources close to him and even Ron Galella himself, as shown when the people on the movie were talking about him. I think it was intended to paint a picture of a controversial issue (and the person who started it), and leave a bit up to yourself to decide what you think of it.

  3. The sources used in the Galella film were from other journalists, paparazzi, various famous people, news casts, court cases and interviews with galella himself. THis was a documentary to portray Galella's career and his extreame methods to get a photograph.

  4. The prodoucers got there information on Galella from other peoeple he knew. They interviewed people who either knew of him or personally knew him. They interviewed people that worked with Galella. this was meant to show how paparazzi do their job, what people think of paparazzi and how far some people are willing to to get what they need.

  5. I think the intended picture this film tried to protray was a big controversy. Do you think what Gallela did was justified because it was his job? Or was he simply a pesky fly desperate for attention?

  6. This movie was most likely taped to illustrate how Gallella got his information, and how being a paparazzi is hardwork and it is not "creepy". Although, the movie was intended to do that, people still believe that Gallella was creepy and pushy at what he does. The people making the film most likely got their sources from interviews with Galella and family/freinds/clients. They might have also got the information from other interviews and other news articles about the Galella situation and about Galella's trial with Jackie O.

  7. Clearly, one source was Gallela himself, as he was being interviewed in the film. Another source seems to be his lawyers during the Jackie Onassas trial; as well as Onassas' lawyers as well. There seemed to be so many others sources that they were interviewing, I think they were just people outside the piicture that had nothing to do with it, they just knew of famous Ron Gallela. The point of view is to show his amazing stubbornness to stop taking pictures. The film itself was called "Smash his camera" because Jackie Onassas begged her secret service member to smash his camera, as he refused to stop following her.

  8. The people who made this movie on Galella were trying to show that although everyone thought that Galella was a sleazy, disrespectful reporter, he was actually a good person. They talked to his friends and people that he knew or took pictures of that DIDN'T find him replusing. The makers of this film tryed very hard to find the few people in this world that actually thought of Ron Galella as a good man who was just dedicated to his job.

  9. In order to make this film, people had to research Ron Galella and find information on him. Some sources could have been the people he photographed/stalked, or witnesses to some of Galella's interactions with the people he was photographing. Other than this, they could have looked through his pictures, and found out more information on some of his court cases. In addition, they could have asked him his personal opinion on the whole topic. Other sources could include other paparazzi, journalists, and celebritties. I think that the point of this documentary was to show people what the paparazzi were like during that day and to show a case where a man seemed to go "too far" in photographing celebrities.

  10. They probably talked too celebirties and people that knew Galella. The tone of the films were almost putting down Gallella, advertising him as a creep and that he was crazy. It also did say some good things about him.

  11. One source, is the interview of Galella. Also, Galella's wife was intervied as well as his friends and the people he worked with. The interview idea was a great idea to get information to the viewer. Becasue the filmakers interviewed people who knew of Galella, the viewer (me) was able to get some sort of sense of Galella's personality and what he aims to do with his work.

  12. This film based on Ron Galella, most of the information came from direct people, a lot of people that knew him personally. Some people were friends with him, but some people befriended him. When i watched this movie, to me the tone felt almost angry. When people talked about the type of man Galella was, they made it seem like he was the worst man in the world. Others knew the real Ron and they talked about how much of a good guy he was and how he excelled at what he did. There was a lot of mixed feelings throughout this film.

    ReplyDelete
  13. They used people that knew who he was and who knew him closely. People who agreed with what he did and people who disagreed.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I believe the producers got all their information from Galella himself, I assume that they interviwed him, or followed him around. I also think that the producers Galella and some of the cases hes been in, and some of his more famouse photos.

  15. The producers of the film probably interviewed different photo journalists, TV journalists, others involved in the media, and of course, Ron Gallela.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I agree with all the people who said Ron Galella was a source himself, because he knew the most about what he did with his photographing.

    ReplyDelete
  17. With movies and tv shows, producers will cut the film in such a way to project a tone or idea about the subject. In this case Galella. What is the intention of this film? How do the producers want you to feel about Galella and the paparazzi?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I also think that the point of this movie was to show different opinions on who Ron Galella is as both a person and professional. Clearly, he was a fantastic photographer, having taken many famous pictures. In addition, his stubborness to stop taking pictures showed how much passion he had toward his career. Other opinions were that he was a strange, creepy man who would not take no for an answer. Many would describe him as "sleazy" or "really odd."

  19. It is obvious that Galella himself was a big source on this movie, he was interviewed throughout this film in present time but also there were a few interviews/ pictures of Galella in earlier time while he was in action. Another source in documentary was some employers for Galella, they opened up his entire storage room full of millions of pictures.

  20. Emma brought up a good point regarding the sources being good. If the filmakers were able to get access to where Galella "does his work," then there must be some connection. I wonder however, if persuading took place or if Galella wanted to do the documentary.

  21. The people who made the movie used soucrces such as Ron Gallela and other photogrophers. They tried to paint the bad and good pictures of his career and life. The movie makers focused mostly on the good aspects of his life, possibly trying to make him look like a much better person than he already was.

    ReplyDelete
  22. This movie was probably made to show how paparazzi started. To show how they got to be the sleazy people they are. The reporting in the movie was really good, like Emmasaid, they got access to his home, and room where million of his famous pitures were stored.

    ReplyDelete
  23. They had multiple parts about the "employees" in Gallela's basement working on his library of photography. Clearly, that place need so much work and effort, as pictures were changed to darken and lighten, everything was tagged and put in what seemed to be in alphabetical order. That shows how the proudcers of this show wanted to emphasize his amazing achievments, and multitude of works. It seems as if it was just endless.

  24. Don't forget, effective blogging involves posting your original idea as well as responding to others.

    ReplyDelete
  25. In additon to sources, I feel that connections were invloved along with interviews, pictures, and much research.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The film was made to show us Galella's life in which he was a well known photographer. To obtain all the information shown throughout the film, the producers had to interview those who personally knew Galella and those who were not that close with him but have still heard of him. They even interviewed Galella himself. I think the film was intended to illustrate what the paparazzi is really like, and how far they will go just to take pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They want you to show you how far a paparazzi would go for something as little as a picture, also how the career of a paparazzi is very important to some people.

    ReplyDelete
  28. @ Hayley. Thank you captain obvious. The entire movie was about Galella.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The producers want to make viewers feel that the paparazzi isn't bad, and that they are just trying to make a living. Their intentions were to make Gallela seem like a good person as well as the paparazzi.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think that the producers wanted to portray Ron Galella as neither a good guy, or a bad guy, I feel the producers felt that it was up to us to decipher that for ourselves. I think that they just wanted to show the life of one of if not the best paparazzi that we had ever seen. They wanted to show us that he was hard working and determined with what he did, you have to admire that.

  31. This was basically a documentary on Ron Galella because even though it was all about Galella taking pictures and the different experiences he had with celebrities. In his time he was one of the few people that would go to such extremes to get a good picture and he is a legend because he changed the world of paparazzi forever.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i agree with jessica , paparazzi go very far for just a picture.

  33. I think the sources for the Galella must have been ohter paparazzi, journalists that knew him, and celebrities that have met him or that he photograph. Probably before they made this film, they interviewed Galella. The picture was intended to illustrate how paparazzi will do anything to just get a picture of a celebrity. Also it illustrates how Galella made take pictures of celebrities famous.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I also think that while Ron Galella appears to be a creepy, sutbborn man, the producers want you to understand that he took such extreme measures to be a good photographer, not a stalker. They basically want to express that while Ron Galella can sometimes be potrayed as a "bad man," his intentions were for the most part good. He was also an extremely successful paparazzi, which shows that he had to be doing something right. Even though at times he was a bit extreme, he gave the people what he wanted and took very popular, appealing pictures.

  35. I think the producers wanted to show a negitive feel toward gaella. They way they portrayed him made him seem creepy. On the opther hand, they showed that he was very dedicated to his work.

    ReplyDelete
  36. The intention of this film is to expose us to the history of paparazzi. It gives us enough information about both subjects, but it also shows his controversial life. This gives us a chance to decide for ourselves what we think about it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. the people who intervied and produced the movie are probably journalists and paparazzi thmselves...

    ReplyDelete
  38. They wanted to show the other side of paparazzi. The side where they work, like its a job, and how they aren't as sleazy, and annoying as they seem.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I think John is correct in that sense, as they showed Gallela as not only good, but also bad. With the number of interviews they had, we saw a number of different points of view. Some people called him disgusting, sleazy, and the meaning of the horrible leech-like paparazzi. But others also expressed their sincere feelings for how Gallela was an artist, and made the paparazzi world what it is today. We could clearly see a number of different points of view.

  40. I agree with kellyn because i also felt that when peoople talked about Ron Galella, it seemed like they were angry at him. When people talked about him it would seem as if they were talking about a man who is just an annoying person. others said that he was a good guy so i guess you could say others think differently about him

    ReplyDelete
  41. I disagree with Armaan and Daphne who think that the film was intended to show Galella's accomplishmens and how his career was not creepy. I think that the film had a tone showing that the paparazzi is getting out of hand, and Galella was a perfect example.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think Tara and Jessica, people in the paparazzi world, it seems like they will not stop just to get one picture. Gallela showed his extents in the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree with Kaylee when she says that this film was prbably produced to show how paparazzi began and the source of their "crazy" behavoir in taking pictures of celebrities.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Im not sure how the producers of this film want to portray Galella and paparazzi. There were mixed signals with this because they filmed people that really like Galella and yet they interviewed people that truely didnt like him. Therefore, i would guess that the makers of this film wanted to tell both sides of this situatuion.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think that this film is intended to show how some people of the paparazzi go WAY to far just get a story or something as small as a couple of photos. Ron Galella would stalk, humiliate, and violate people just to get some photos to add to his various collection. Most of the people that were interviewed in the documentary didn't like Ron they found him annoying and a disgrace to paparazzi.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Well Jess, I actually said that they showed both his accomplishments, and creepy personality.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree with Nick and Kellyn who think that the tone was an angry one directed towards Galella.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with Jessica, who disagrees with Daphne and Armaan. I also think that the film showed how paparazzi are going too far just to get a picture.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I disagree with the people that say that this movie was made to show how paparazzi just take pictures to make a living because I think this movie showed the exact opposite. This movie showed how Galella had gotten up anytime someone told him about a celebrity being out in public and he would rush down to get a picture. If anything this movie showed how dedicated people can get to their work.

  50. This film was intended to exemplify what the paparazi really is. However, it seems as if this documentary is producing mixed messages. For some people being interviewed, they said that they thougt Galella was great and they said a lot of good stuff. On the other hand, others were saying bad stuff about him. I don't think that the filmakers had a true aim towards this besides showing people what the paparazzi does becasue few are aware. Personally, this documenary did not sway my opinion on the paparazzi. I still feel as if it is creepy to hide somewhere just to get a shot. I also think it is weird and unjust to sneak into many places. Most likley producers wanted the public to see that the paparazzi do produce very good pictures that many people benefit from, however, the "job" involves a lot of sneakyness and there are swayed opinions upon the whole idea.

  51. Gallela's life was being a paparazzi, he wasnt married all he cared about was taking picture of famous people. I think that he shouldn't have made is whole live all about is career.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I also agree with Emma this film showed the history of paparazzi. Galella has been in between all of it since it first started.
