How far is too far to get a story?
Find examples that illustrate your point and discuss them on the blog.
I think what is the limit for how far someone can go to get a story would be if they obtained the info for the story in a violent way. Like if they had to hurt someone phyicaly or mentaly to get the information needed. Also if getting the information for it did somthing against the person's culture, belifes of religon. That is when it goes to far.
I think that stalking someone just to have something over them to get a reporter the money is way too far. I agree with Jordan that hurting someone mentally ar physically to get information is too far for a reporter to get a story.
I think you should go as far as you can get, until it threatens sombody's saftey. Whether it is yours or anybody elses. Also you should stop if it involves breaking the law.
Many paparazi go as far as stalking celebraties to get a story. I personally think that that is crossing the line. You need to give the celebrities boundaries and not make them feel uncomfortable and even scared in that situation. This is prominent for kids escpecially. Kids shouldnt be in the situation of being stalked it is illegal. But many paparazzi believe that its not stalking and that they just are getting a news story. One paparazzi went as far as creating a secrative camera called the drone which is used to take picutres of the celebrity without him being near them because the creation can fly.
Personally, I think the paparazzi goes WAY to far. They invade celebrity's lives, and have no sense of privacy. I think if you're going to stalk someone, or go past their limits, it's going to far. For example, in the article about the abusing dogs, the newswoman went to the people's house, and peered into their screen window. First, if you're going to interview them , get permission first and do it without the camera on. it's going to far.
I would say the farthenst point to get a story is defifinatly stalking however their may be more extreme measures. I do not know of any specific cases of mureder involoving paparazi however if someone was mentaly psyco, one may kill a cebleberty to attain a story.
I feel that all things the paparazi do in general is going to far. Your invading celeberties privacy by crwding around them and taking pictures of there every move.
I think that if a reporter starts actually stalking someone, and not leaving their property, even once the person had gone inside their house and clearly did not want to answer any questions, then the reporter should back off and leave them alone. Otherwise the reporter is actually harassing the person they want to interview and then they have gone too far
I agree with Jordan Scott. It is too far to get a story when you hurt someone. Like if you physically hurt someone just to get the story is going to far. Also when you start stalking the person who knows the story. Not only is stalking creepy it is going way too far. Another thing is when you start asking questions that goes against peoples culture.
I think that going too far to find a story would be if you start stalking a person and their family. There has to be a limit to how far you go, and if you start investigating too personally you are invading people's personal life that should not have to be shared to the public if they don't want to. If a reporter has to start sneaking around doing illegal things such as tresspassing, excessive stalking, ect. then it is obvious they have gone too far.
Not just paperatzi go far to get a story. Regular journalists go far to get some stories. But it is mostly paparatzi. Why don't they useally get arrested for stalking?
I think it depends on a couple of circumstances. 1. the importance and significance of the story, as well as who it's going to effect and what kind of POSITIVE impact it's going to make. It has to be for the greater good. 2. how much you're willing to risk to get the story as a person 3. if it's for just your own personal benefit, don't go too far. that's wrong.
I think that too far would be something like sneaking into someone else's house to get information, breaking into government documents, or basically harassing a person to find out information. Harassment is bad, so is breaking and entering as well as other illegal activities you could participate in to get a breaking story. If the story is mostly just for your personal benefit because you want something interesting, it's not worth it. For example though, if say the mayor of your state is smuggling tax dollars to support a million dollar tobacco crop in his back yard, then that is worth investigation because it will change the society that this impacts in a positive way. But let the police do that and then report about it later, don't actually do anything stupid yourself as a journalism. But this is just when it comes to investigating. Another way that a journalist can go too far is how they talk to other people- Helen Thomas is a veteran reporter who had to eventually resign due to her questioning way of getting answers- she was cranky and demanding and extremely opinionated, so much so that she'd even said to "get the Jews the hell out of Palestine and go home". As a journalist you are supposed to report a story, not surpress your audience.
The limits to getting a story are invading someone's personal life. If you are a journalist, and you are starting to annoy, bother and creep people out, then you are taking it to far. If you are starting to personally offend them, that is also taking it too far.
Some people, mostly paparazzi, find that it is their buisness to stalk people and squeeze out scandelous stories of every single move they make. Even though people find it very entertaining and interesting to hear about the things that go on in famous people's lives, sometimes it goes too far. For example, Nicole Richie stated that this man, probably paparazzi was stalking her little daughter, and it got to a point where it was too much. He had supposedly waited outside the little girl's school waiting for her to be let out. That is going way to far and if more and more people start to act that way, more and more people are going to get angry at them.
I think people need to have boundaries when getting a story. When they surpass their boundaries and end up hurting people, they went too far. That story someone shared last week about a photographer stalking Nicole Richies baby, that person went to far.
I think far is breaking the law or maybe violating someones rights to get a story. If a story that your trying to make is going to ruin somebody's reputation then I think out of good conscience you shouldn't run that story.
I agree a lot with what emma said,it has to be for the greater good. It also has to do with your morals and if you're going to risk them. If its just for your benefit, its not good, its wrong.
I think that once you start invading the persons private life, and begin to stalk someone is when you cross the line. I feel news reporters should do whatever they can to get a news story, but once you invade the persons private life and spy on them, it becomes sneaky and i think its crossing the line.
I also agree with Daphne. Paparzi in general crosses the line. It is essential for children to have personal space so they can act like normal kids. However, at the same time, most people who become a celeberty, they should know the circumstance. They should know that paparazi is involved. Before wanting to become a star they should decide weather or not they are willing to have the paparzi being around them. Nevertheless, some celeberties do not choice to become famous, their fans do.
I think "newspeople" definately go to far. I think sometimes they might cross the line to something illegal, but no one will say anything. Like Daryl, I breaking the law is going past the line. Like Kaylee, people getting a story must set ground rules and have boundaries first. It's the most important thing.
When getting a story, a reporter or paparazzi may go too far. "Too far" would be stalking the person or injuring them. When harming someone either mentally or physically, one if going too far. For example, one reporter went as far as to set up a secretive camera in order to view a celebrity when they don't expect it. This is an invasion of the person's privacy and definitely going too far.
You shouldn't go as far as doing anything possible just to get your story. It offends alot of people and it annoys everyone. Being a stalker is something you shouldn't do, that is just creepy and going to far.
I do agree with Daryll because violating someone's rights just to get a news story is wrong. But, if you find a story that someone is doing some illegal things, then you should report it, even if it ruins their rep.
i think taking it to far is when you break the law or hurt someone. If you invade somoenes privacy then your taking it to far. There is no need to stalk people and to break the law just to get a story and make some money.
I think that Nicole Richie's story is a perfect example of the paparazi going too far when trying to get a story because her stalker went so far as to follow her little daughter to school, at this point he went so far that he wasn't even stalking Nicole anymore, he was stalking her little daughter.
I agree with mostly everyone on this issue. Also, paparazzi should be taken more seriously and should be given more harsh punishments because some of them are ruining celebrities and childrens lives.
I also agree that many paparazzi go too far often without getting in trouble. It is amazing what some people are willing to do to obtain a new story. I don't think it is fair to the people on the other side of the paparazzi and some of the actions taken are highly unneccesary.
The people involved in the paparizi should think of other people. Whoever decides to stalk celeberties should think about how they would feel if someone did that to them, it is just not fair.
I agree with Jordan, you're going too far when your life is in danger. I also think you're going too far when it comes to celebrities- Owen Wilson wanted to kill himself and everyone found out he was depressed because he was always in the spot light. When you eventually endanger your life or someone else's, it's time to let it go.
I agree with Kaylee. People need boundaries when getting a story. Stalking is breaking the boundaries and stalking is going too far to get a story. And Nicole Richies baby getting stalk is a great example.
I think everyone has pretty much the same idea. Parazzi is going to far when they invade celebrities lives. Do they ever think about what they are actually doing when they get every little dirty detail about people?
I agree with Gio, I believe that once you get into someones personal life, you are out of line, and getting into someone elses business that is not yours. I also think it goes agaisnt ones morals to invade somones private life.
When people go to the extreme of stalking others to get a story is scary. I dont understand how people could do this for a living. Agreeing with daryll, these people must not have a strong conscience. They must not think of how they are making the celebrities feel, when they are mobbing them everywhere they go. I think oerall The Paraperazi are stupid.
I agree with everyone about the boundries there needs to be when finding out a story. Whether it is a top story about a famous celebrity or just something small you need to find out for your personal benefit, you should always be respecting everyone else's personal lives. Kaylee brought up a good point about the Nicole Richie situation which shows that that photographer went way too far to get a story which was very wrong.
Paparazzi go the farthest to get a story. They get in peoples faces and anonoy them to the point where they get violent. I think that may be going to far to get a story. If people don't want to talk about something they shouldn't have to. Instead questions are being shouted at them and it violates their personal space.
I agree with Armaan because i also think that poparazzi go way to far with the celeberties. If a celebrety walks outside their house they get surrounded by poparazzi asking them question that are sometimes personal. Sometimes celebraties have personal things that has happend to them and poparazzi always want to get the best secrets or facts about these celebraties.
I agree with Kaylee on how people need to have boundaries when getting stories. There needs to be limits so people don't become angrier at the people getting their news stories.
Most of the people in the paparazi don't have feelings for the celeberties they surround. The may lie, as some do. They may catch a bad picture of someone just to make them look bad because they are against them. "Paperazing" is an easy way to get money as well as being able to do. Even though it may be easy, it does not mean it is right.
I doubt that paparazi will evolve into people not seeking juicy stories. Paparazi will be a hard thing to change. Celeberties have to be aware that there is paparazi weather they like it and weather it is right or wrong. People (paparazi or others trying to find a juicy news story) should not excede the ilmit, boundries, and privaces that they wouldn't want to be invaded themselvels.
I think what is the limit for how far someone can go to get a story would be if they obtained the info for the story in a violent way.
