Why are these stories newsworthy?

  1. I think the story that was most newsworthy was Jordan's one about the girl who got suspened for piercing her nose. (Although I am pretty sure someone else did this artical before)
She pierced her nose because of her Indian culture/ religon. So expelling someone who is expressing there religon is violating the first amendment of Freedom of religon. That is why it is news worthy.

  2. These articles are newsworthy because they are events that have happened that have caused an impact or a reaction. Newsworthy articles are those that cause people to think and question, as well as an event that may stir up controversy in a society.

  4. The story that I found the most newsworthy was the one regarding the wildfire. This is because such a natural disaster can be dangerous and harm others. Luckily, no one was harmed or killed, however, many possession were destroyed. I think this article brings awareness to people and forces them to realize that such things can happen. In the future, one should know how to prevent a wildfire so something so unfourtunate does not happen.

  5. In my opinion, the most newsworty article was Jordan's, the one regarding the girl piercing her nose and getting suspended. I think that this is the most newsworthy artticle becasue it makes people realize that people do things for reasons, in this case it was religion. The girl should not have been suspended for expressing her religion. Piercings in general should not be part of the dress code considering it is an expression of opinion.

  6. I feel the story about the titanic was extremely newsworthy. A story that we all know, suddenly changes. It's something that I, and most likely a lot of other people did not see coming. Like the person responsible for the titanic hitting the iceberg, I would not feel thrilled about telling people that I made all those people drown. I think it's important that that story came out, and some untold secrets are revealed about the true story of the titanic.

  7. I agree with what Jenna said about the wildfire being a headlining story. This is true that a major story like this is newsworthy, but the nose piercing story is newsworthy as well mainly because it's a common thing to see, but in this case a girl got suspended for it because of her religion. This is a huge violation of the first amendment, as Jordan said, which is what makes it newsworthy- although its a common thing to have your nose pierced, its got a different twist.

  8. All of these articles are very newsworth. But, I believe taht the article about the titanic was the most newsworty becauseit involved an event that happened in the past. The titanic crash had effected many people and future genorations so, by having the article in the news it would involve many people even though it was in the past.

  9. These stories are newsworthy because the counrty should be advised about these situations and events. If these stories were not in the news, nobody would know about anything and we would have no knowlege on certain topics. The story about the girl who got abducted is very interesting and everyone should know about it because it is a huge controversy. The story about the girl piercing her ear is important because she was expressing her self and if she attended a public school, they have no say in if she should wear one or not. People should know about these types of things so they can voice their oppinion.

  10. I think the wilfires in colorado were very newsworthy. This is because it affected everyday people, so many people can relate to this. It also has to do with disaster, and for some wierd reason people seem to love destruction and negitives. It also showed how the importance of family, and life itself are more important than simple possesions.

  11. The one i thought was the most newsworthy was definitely Hayley's. I mean someone being kidnapped, probably raped, and then kept in a basement is pretty big. What also makes it big is the fact that he killed him self and she bought his house and car. To me that doesn't make any sense it's kind of like she wanted somehting to remember him by which doesnt really seem like much sense.

  12. I think that Marta's article about the Titanic was the most news worthy because it brought up a huge event from the past that was so tragic. Eventhough it was so long ago, everyone remembers it and knows what happened, so this article draws a lot of attention. It's shocking to know that the cause of all those deaths was something different than what we have believed for years.

  13. I thought that the most newsworthy article was the one about the girl who was suspended for having her nose pierced because that is not legal. Freedom of speech is the first amendment in the constitution and this high school girl can do whatever she wants to her own body in order to express herself in the way she wants, as long as it isn't inappropriate and follows the school's rules. In my understanding there was no written rule that said that girl was not allowed to have her nose pierced while she attended that school. I think this article is newsworthy because it is controversal because some people will agree that she should have been suspended, but others will think it is a violation of the first amendment.

  14. I feel the article most newsworthy was Hayley's. Her article can really teach you about life, the article was about this girl who got abducted when she was youger, after 8 years she was free, and she wrote a book on her long inprisonment. This just goes to show you, that you have be careful and anything can happen to you.

  15. I think that Hayley's article wsa the most news worthy, because it can spread awarness about child abduction. Parents can read this and learn from other parents' mistakes, therefore protecting thier childnen from abduction.

  16. In agreement with Jenna I also feel that the wildfire article was newsworthy. It taught the public eye to appreciate what you have before it's gone. From this article, people will learn that wildfires are very dangerous and it is important to prepare for a disaster like this.

  17. I do agree that all of these articles were newsworthy because they all caused a reaction from the people. Whether it be the controversial issue of a girl suspended for piercing her nose, or a dangerous wildfire destroying people's posessions, these articles are all newsworthy. They cause people to think and discuss issues that have occurred in our society. When hearing these articles, the one about the wildfire struck me as the most newsworthy for the reasons listed in my previous blog.

  18. The article I found most newsworthy was Jordan's about the girl with the pierced nose. How can someone be suspended from school for a piercing? If the person had some kind of attitude about their piercing, that I would understand. But for your religion? That's ridiculous.
I also thought the article of the Titanic was newsworthy because it sort of uncovered something of importance. I didn't know the Titanic sank due to a steering error, though that seemed to be cause, and that someone kept that a secret until now.

  19. I agree with Daphne about the titanic and how it was a huge tragedy and it affected many people. It is a very interesting event and lots of people want to hear details about it.

  20. I also thought Hayleys artical about the girl being kidnaped was newsworthy. Child kidnaping is sitll a big thing going on today which is terrible. It was a story of bravery to be held captive for 8 years and survive.

  21. These stories are newsworthy because they are tragic, happy, or controversial. To me, the most newsworthy was Hayleys about Natasha. It was newsworthy because its not everyday you hear about someone being held captive for 8 years and escaping. I thought it was really interesting. I was talking about it with my mom a few days ago. I thought it was really inspiring how she wrote a book about her ordeals.

  22. I think the most newsworthy was the story about the Titanic. I think that because, it was very interesting. The Titanic sinking was a very sad event. I would of never thought that it was because of the drivers of the boat. I thought they couldn't see the ice, but after hearing this, it all kind of make sense. Also I think other people would never guess that it was the drivers fault.

  23. Along with Emily, as far as I know, there is no school rule prohibiting a nose pierce. I honestly feel bad for the little twelve year old girl. Their was no reason for her to be suspended for connecting with her family.

  24. I agree with Daryll, I thought it was kind of sick that the lady bought the mans house and car, its almost like she embraces him, and the fact that his presence was well felt.

  25. I agree with Armann who said that Marta's article will draw so much attention because untold secrets were finally revealed dealing with the Titanic. Also, I think he brought up a good point about how nobody saw it coming. This aspect makes the article even more newsworthy because it was unexpected.

  26. The article were newsworthy because they all have an impact on someones life. I feel the most newsworthy article was Jordans. Hers was about the girl that got a nose ring because of her religon then got into trouble with her school because it was against dress code. I thought this was newsworty because i feel people should be able to express there religon and schools should get in the way with that.

  27. Also, the article about the nose piercing was newsworthy. You can't suspened someone for practicing their country of origin's customs.

  29. All articles truly were newsworthy. The abducted girl story was newsworthy because it is rare that something like this would happen. To sum up what Daryl said, who really knows what happened to that girl over a span of 8 years. But it is amazing that she was able to write a book throughout. Also, the wildfire story was newsworthy because it affects all those people. It was lucky that no one was hurt or killed, but they lost things they will never get back.

  30. I also agreed with Daphne, the Titanic was a huge tragedy that affeected many people.

  32. Articles that are newsworthy must have reaction of others. They also must have a dramatic imapact on the enviorment of people around them. A nesworthy article must make people think of what is really happening in the world.

  33. i really liked the one that jordan had read because it shows that now people are gettting stricter about the wrong information. when this girl had her nose piereced it wasnt doing anyone harm. They should be worrying about bullying .
