I think that the most controversial story is the article about North Korea having nuclear arms. I think this is most controversial because it directly impacts the lives of millions of people and threatens national security for several countries. Having nuclear weapons may leave some countries with that reason alone to attack them and potentially kill a ton of people.
I think the most controversial story out of the ones we disscussed was the one about the girl getting suspeneded because of her pierced nose. We later learned that the reason why her nose was pierced was due for religous reasons. In America we have freedom of speech/religon. So having a nose piercing due to reliogus reasons is part freedom of speech and religon. And beening suspended for that is violating the amenmendment.
the young boy that killed himself. he killed himslef becasuse he was being bullyed about being gay. he was only elevn years old. so i dont think that he was sure that he was gay he might have thought about it. his mother has called the school many times and they did nothing about it
I think that the girl getting her nose pierced is the most controversial story because there are many opinions formed on it. The arguments made against her getting suspended can be supported and prove that the suspension was unfair and unjust.
I think the most newsworthy controversy is definately the one about the girl who got suspended for having her nose pierced. All students have the right to express themselves however they want. She got suspended just for a nosering? Someone mentioned it was apart of her religion. Schools shouldn't go against that. How come they didnt suspend someone else for the outfit they chose to wear that day? I feel that is very unfair to that girl who did nothing wrong by just wearing a nose ring.
I think the eleven year okd boy killing himself is the most controversial. This is because a young boy killing himself is not very common, and it emphasizes how the suicidal rate is goin gup in this country. Also this can affect many people, because they can relate the liitle boy to themselces, they're children , and close relatives and friends.
I believe that my article was the most contreversial because Nuclear Weapons are a very...bad...thing. They are okay to have in reserve, but to come out and announce in front of the UN that you are making a stockpile of nuclear arms...thats extremly wrong, and sparks a lot of contrevery. It is North Korea's undeniable right to have nuclear weapons in secrecy, but to announce it to everyother country makes it seem that you plan on using them.
The most newsworthy controversial story was the story about the girl that gets suspended for piercing her nose. I think that is most newsworthy because that violates the first Amendment which says freedom in speech. Also she had a pierced nose because of her religon.
I think the girl getting suspended for a pierced nose is controveisal becuase its not right to punish her for piercing her nose. Piercing something on your body is not the schools choice its your choice. I still dont understand why they suspended her for piercing her nose. What did she do to get suspended? Did she swear at people when they asked her to take it out?
I like Jordan's evidence of how the girl getting her nosepierced is the most controversial. As she said, the girl had the nose ring for religious regions, and I also do not agree that she should have been suspended because that violates the amendment of freedom of speech and religion.
I feel that the article that was most contrversial was the article about the girl that got suspended for her nose ring. Some people would say that it is right that she got supsended if the school asked her too take it off first. But others, like me, think it is wrong to suspend someone for what they were (unless really bad). A nose ring does not only apply to the first amendment, and freedom of speech, but it also in a sesnse, applies to freedom of religion and how the ring was part of her religion. Suspending her for what her religion requires her to wear is stupid.
I think the most controversial topic is the eleven year old killing "hislef"(himself). I think this is controversial because a lot of kids and teens have committed suicide recently and its becoming a national epidemic. This is like the suicide of the boy at Rutgers University who committed suicide because his roomate uploaded a video of him being intimate with another young man. The boy is said to have committed suicide because people were making fun of him being gay. Theres been a lot of hate crimes recently.
I think that controversy that was most newsworthy was the story regarding the girl with her nose pierced. Even though this does not affect a great deal of people or hold much importance, it is extremely controversial. I find it amazing that a school could actually suspend a girl for having her nose pierced. To some, this is standard because that was the school's dress code, however, to others it is ridiculous. I understand that this piercing had to do with the girls religion which is even more proof this siuation was handled the wrong way. This girl may have given attitude when the school officials told her to take it out, but who wouldn't if they were in that situation? I find it absolutely ludacris that this girl was suspended, whether sha gave too much attitude or not. Everyone in America should have the freedom of speech.
I think that the most controversial story is the article about Abortion affecting a presidential race. Abortion is a issue constatly being brought up. It is a very controversial issue because either people feel very strongly about not having an abortion, or you feel that it is nescassary. Having abortion being brought up during a presidential election, I believe, is not fair because people are entitled to their own opinions about abortion. People shouldn't be basing their votes on what a person's religion believes.
There was news today that i heard that i never heard about before the most shocking one that i read and we had talked about was probably the one with the monkey killing the baby, before there was previous news with a monkey killing a old lady so i found it interesting...
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/oct/08/nobel-peace-prize-liu-xiaobo I think this article is controversial because a prisoner in China received the Nobel Peace Prize. China argues that awarding this prize would contradict aims of award and warned Norway (where the comittee resides) that Sino-Norwegian relations would be fragmented if Liu Xiaobo(prisoner) won. Norway had awarded Xiaobo the Prize for a "long, non-violent struggle for...human rights in China....There is a close connection between human rights and peace".
I agree with Daryll, the parents should not have left the window open, because they know that they are in a monkey infested enviorment, and that they are intruding on the monkey's home.
I think the most controveral article is the article about North Korea getting nuclear weapons. This puts everyone that lives in the U.S. in danger because if they were to attack us, we would not be able to defend ourselves against nuclear power. Knowing that North Korea has nuclear weapons means that we need to find a way to make amends with them or else we could be attacked, and if we are, large parts of the U.S. will be blown up, and there will not be much that we can do to stop them. That's why it is important that everyone is aware of this news article so that we can try and protect ourselves in any why possible.
You cannot blame the monkey for throwing the baby out of the window just because the parents were stupid enough to leave a FOUR DAY OLD baby in the a room with an open window.....I'm just glad my parents weren't this stupid.
I think the most controversial story is the article about the eleven year old boy killing himself. It really shows just how bullying keeps growing, and people that are bullying against gay people. I think the boy was innocent, just for the fact that an eleven year old boy should not have to kill himself for him thinking he is gay. Maybe he wasn't and did not understand what it really meant.
I think the article about the girl getting suspended for having her nose peirced is very contoversal. Some may say in is "innappropriate" to have a percing in the nose however, as she stated it very well may have been for her religion.
I agree with Daphne, abortion is a huge problem in this country and something should be done about it. Some people are for it, and some people are against it. Minds should be made up about it because this subject is a big controversy.
I understand why some people might think that the story about the nuclear weapons or the child committing suicide impacted people greatly, however, I do not think that these things are as controversial as the girl getting her nose pierced. This is because in the other stories, there may be two sides, however, most agree with one side. In the controversy about the girl getting her nose pierced, there are two defined sides that could be defended easily with several arguments.
I agree with Daphne as well, abortion is a very conroversial topic in the United States as well as other countries. It is constantly brought up and people have different opions and views on it.
I also agree with those who said that the nose piercing is the most controversial article. Because the nost piercing was for religious reasons, I think she had every right to not take it out. The attitude she gave was probably unneccessary and definately a factor in her suspension, but we do have freedom of religion and freedom of speech, so she should not have been asked to take it out in the first place.
One of the most controversial stories that I have heard is about a soldier that was just released from Afghanistan. The soldier is being accused for kiling Afghan civilians for the joy of killing. It was said by other soldiers that they he would cut up parts of the body, such as fingers and leave them on the corpse. Then he would proceed in taking pictures with the body. Sgt. Calvin Gibbs, the soldier accused, apparently told other soldiers that if they told his secret, he would do the same to them. This story is controversial because the current war affects so many of us. This is really extreme stuff..
I don't think the one involving the monkey taking the baby is very controversal unless you really look into it. I honestly can not think how this is the baby's or the monkey's fault.
I think the most controversial current event would be about the four students that commited sucided within the last couple of years, because of bullying. I feel this topic is really controversial because this not only reacently just happened at Mentor High but it has happened throughout the country. For example an 18 yearold collage student at Rutgers University just commited suicide for being tormented by his rumates.
