  1. The fact that stores are trying to sell action figures for adults seems like aa very silly idea. My fourth grade teacher collected acton figures for Star Wars to decorate his classroom, but he was the only adult I knew of who collected action figures.

  2. I found Jessica's article the most interesting because, as an athelete, i find it really comforting that some coaches are willing to stop practice when somebody is hurt. Not only did he stop practice, he called 911 which saved this boys life. If all coaches are willing to do that, then more and more people will be comfortable playing high school sports.

  3. To me, the most interesting and newsworthy article was Jess'. I was surprised when a coach stopped a whole practice for one player. Most high school coaches would over-look something like a headache, or dizziness. He went beyond the call of duty and in turn, ended up saving the players life. This was deffinately the most important article shared today.

  4. The artical I thought was most intresting and news worthy was the one about the coach saving the football player's life. It showed how a person can make the right the desions in a life or death situation. Instead of just letting the kid sit out of the game after getting hit in the head, he called the teen's father and called 911. Doing so saved his life. It also shows the coach's dedication to his team. That is why i think that artical is most new's worthy.

  5. The artcle that interested me the most was the one about body peircings. It interested me because i know people that have an outrageous amount of piercings and tattoos. It is a misrepresentation of americans when people have to many tattoos or piercings. E understand if somone wants to get a small tattoo or a small peircing but when somone wants to get 5 to 6 tattoos or 7 piercings its just disgusting and disturbing.

  6. I feel the most interesting article that was shared today was Daphnes. Her article was about the art of body piercings, personally the most extreme piercing I would get would be my ears pierced. But as daphne was talking it made me think that some people actually take piercing seriously for the art of it not just for the looks of it.

  7. The article that i found most interesting was Mckenzies article. I found it very interesting that an action figure was only made for adults 18 and over. Since action figures are mostly aimed towards the kids, it wouldnt make sense for only adults to be able to use the doll.

  8. The aritical that I think is most news-worthy is the artical about the "serialkiller" action figure. I thought it was intrestingthat they even had a toythat refrenced to that. It may have benn "18+"but more kids have action figures than adults. The toy does not have a good example for young children,it is only teaching them to be violent and cruel. Many other toys are becoming like this one.Plastic guns, rubber swords, they all show violence. My little brother has alot of toys like this, and lately he has been refrencing to them, pretending to kill and stab imaginary people. Toys like this action figure and many others certainly have an effect on young kids.I think it is newsworthy becausethis effects are next generation and young kids all across the U.S..

  9. I think that the most interesting article was the one regarding body piercings. This is because the majority of people believe that piercings are creepy or a bit wierd. Some people with piercings are judged based on how many piercings they have rather than their personality. I thought it was intriguing to hear their point of view arguing that having piercings is an art form. This was newsworthy because it allowed people to hear both points of view, rather than forming their opinion based on one. I thought that it was very odd that any store would have action figures sold to people eighteen and over. This is because not many adults purchase action figures for themselves, but rather for their children. This is why the situation seemed wierd to me. I personally enjoyed the football article the best because it showed that a high school coach could really become attatched to his players. I liked that he took the time to help the player rather than continue practice and allow an assistant coach deal with the situation. What was most interesting to me was that he followed the player all the way to the hospital showing that he truly cared. This was probably the biggest accomplishment of his career.

  10. I thought all three articles were interesting. The South Kingston football alrticle shows how their coach was more than just a guy there to yell out calls and make players do sprints. It shows that he's really there for the players. The body piercing article was creepy. I don't understand how people can do that to themselves. There should not be a Cerial Killer action figure marketed. Even if it is intended for adults, it still should not be marketed at a child's toy store. Children will definately get their hands on them, and we don't want children to act like cerial killers.

  11. I thought that the three articles presented today were all very interesting in different ways. I felt Daphne's article was most interesting becasue it showed the prespective of someone who has many piercings. People against piercings, could read this article and learn why those who have piercings get them. I thought the article "This Coach's Call Went Beyond the Play Book" was newsworthy because it showed that a highschool football coach from a small town could make a big difference by making one call and saving a player's life. Also, McKenzie's article about the action figures was informative because it showed us that kids in our society may be playig with figures that represent cereal killers. This could have a very poor effect on the younger generation.

  12. I agree with Kaylee. When a player says they dont feel good or they have a headache, most coaches just tell them to sit off to the side, and they go on with practice. This coach differs from most because he went out of his way and ended up saving this player's life.

  13. Today's articles were very interesting. I found that the most newsworthy article was the one regarding the high school football coach saving his own players life. I feel that this was most newsworthy because it gave another prespective of what a coach can do. Not only can a coach teach his players life long skills but they can also save ones life. This coach was one out of a few that would personally treat his player with the medical treatment he needs to survive. In addition, I feel that Daphne's article was also important. It was interesting to hear the other side of someone's personal look. Previous to this article I would have never thought people peirced multiple parts of their body for art. This article gave the public eye a different veiw of why people do what they do.

  14. All the articles that were prestented today were very interesting. But the most interesting, I think is Daphanes. I think that because it shows the different opinion on piercing. Also I think Jessicas, was very news worthy becuase it shows how a coach cares about his players. McKenzies was news worthy too because it shows how toys can teach kids bad things.

  15. I agree with what Kaylee said. Most coaches would normally tell a player to sit on the sidelines until the diziness goes away, or send them to the medkit to take care of themselves. In this case, the coach payed special attention to one particular athlete to make sure he was alright. This is also unusual and not really typical for a coach, which is another reason why it's newsworthy. However, I find it somewhat sad that when a coach does the right thing when it comes to an injury, its so unusual that it has to be put in the news.

  16. I also thought the body peircings artical was intresting.I realize some people like to call it art, But I dont see how holes in your body is art. I understand I few peircing (nose, bellybutton, ears, and ect),but I dont see how people have dozens of them. This could be newsworthy because many people do have peircings and can relate to the situation.

  17. To anybody that says the football article was most interesting, I'd have to slightly agree with you. I'm in my ninth year of playing football, and I can't really think of a time that a coach has stopped a practice for someone possibly having a head injury. I know there are many times where I've hit my head and felt dizzy, and I've never even stopped. I can give you examples within the past two weeks. I'd hope that if I ever hit my head as seriously as this kid from South Kingston, my coaches would stop practice like theirs did. I'm sure they would though.

  18. I think that Jess's article was the most newsworthy as well as intreasting. I think that it's nice to know that people as well as coaches will go out of their way to help someone, and that the matter could be as serious as life or death. The best part of the article in my opinion was that the coach had stopped practice, to help out his player, intead of just continuing with the practice and letting his assistant coach deal with the situation. I also found it intreasting, as well as reassuring that the coach had followed his player all the way to the hostpital. This article shows that there are good people in the world that will stop what there doing, to help someone in need. This also shows that the coach really cares about his players.

  19. The article I thought was most interesting and news worthy was the one about the action figure. It made a point that there shouldn't be serial killer action figures. It is not a toy children should play with, i think it would be better if it was not sold in the store anymore. The article made a good point and I agree.

  20. Sorry Daphne I wont spell it wrong again.

  21. I think that the most newsworthy article was the article about the coach that saved his football player's life by realizing that he was not feeling well and taking him to the hospital. This article was very important because not only did it show how good the coach was, and the type of relationship he had with his players, but it was also the alternative story. If those boys had, had a different football coach, that boy might have died. This article shows that some coaches are really dedicated to their team and make sure they are taken care of.

  22. I posted this under period A by accident.. oops
I think the most interesting article was the article about the football player and the coach who saved his life. I believe this is the most newsworthy article because not only is it exciting but it happened in a town close to here. Because the event happened somewhere near here and it involved a life risking situation, it becomes newsworthy and interesting for the public to read. It also sets an example of an incident where the goals and standards most coaches strive for are achieved.

  23. I agree with what Daphne said in a previous comment. Action-figures are geared toward children between the ages of 3 and 12, so it doesn't seem like it would be a big hit, even for fans of the show. Also, marketing executives need to understand, that if an action-figure, doll, or any toy for that matter, is being sold at a toy store, some child will pick it up. More children go to toy stores than adults, so what adult is going to want to go to a "Toys 'R' Us" to pick up an action figure...for themself?

  24. I also found the football article interesting because I can't believe anyone would ever just stand by when someone needed help.

  25. I agree with what Kellyn said when she reffered to being an athlete and feeling comfortable knowing a coach is willing to help. If I ever got hurt I would truley appretiate the help of my coach. This would give me the feeling of security knowing he cares.

  26. I agree with Mckenzie when she says that the article regarding how a football coach saved a player was the most newsworthy. This is because while the other articles are highly interesting and may grasp the readers' attention, there is a real moral to the strory told in this artcile. The fact that the coach ended practice to examine the player himself and was really only concerned about the player rather than the practice is remarkable. I believe that many people can admire this and learn a lesson from it. If the coach hadn't taken care of the player, he most likely would have died. I also agree with Emma and Kaylee because most coaches would not react in this manner. They would usually allow an assistant coach to deal with this or tell the player to wait and see how he feels.

  27. I found that all the articles I heard about today were pretty interesting. The article that I found to be the most interesting was the boy on the high school football team. The same thing happend to me but I was playing hockey. For that coach to stop the practice and call 911 was very important because the boy probably had a concussion.

  28. I think Daphne's aritcle on body piercing was most interesting. I think it is normal if a girl wants to have her ears pierced or something, but for me, anything more than that is a little extreme. Although I am not into what the woman in the story is all about, I still find it interesting to see the other side. I never thought of body piercing as an art. But clearly, they take it rather seriously. I didn't think someone would like to have as many as 37 piercings in their body.

  29. I also agree with Gio, many coaches dont take to the time to stop practice if a head injury occurs. Unfortanetly this could be fatal to the player. Coaches should be forced to take a class to know what to do if a head injury occurs. Even if the head injury is minor the athlete should stil be taken to the doctor.

  30. I agree a lot with Emma's last few sentences. It is sad that when a coach does the right thing, its so out of the ordinary that it must be put in the news.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree with Kellyn, Emma, and Kaylee. I think that what Kellyn said about students feeling more comfortable to play a sport when they know the coach will always be looking out for them when they get a possible injury. As Kaylee said, I also feel that some coaches wouldn't take the time to personally check on their players. From personal experience, I know that coaches I have had in the past would probably not do what this coach did. Emma definitly brought up a good point when saying it is sad that a coach doing something right is so unusal that it's in the news. I think all coaches should read this article and learn a lesson from it.

  32. I also kind of found the serial killer action figure artical intresting. As well as funny in a way. Funny in the way that there would be controversy on a child's toy. Just because it looks like a serial killer doesnt mean every child who plays with it will become a serial killer. Also, what serial killer did it look like?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I agree with everyonewho think the football artical's newsworthy. Its good too think a coach thinks more about his players than the sport and wining itself.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Overall I believe all the articles today were pretty intersting, it shows that the there is a diversity of events going on around our country today. i also like kaylee's blog, I agree with the fact that most coaches usually just think nothing of it when one of the team members has a headache or feels dizzy, they usually just let that player sit out. But this coach did a lot more he went above and beyond and saved a kids life!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I also agree with Armaaan in the fact that 37 piericings beyong the ears is a little extreme, and in my opinion its wierd, and gos beyond just being art.

  36. Sometimes piercings and tattoos arent just things on your body, sometimes they symobolize things. Like a certian tattoo can mean something to someone. Tattoos and piercings can also be an outlet, somepeople like the pain and think that it makes them feel better. Also the people who get multiple piecerings and tattoos may look creepy and scary but that stops people from getting to know them, they may actually be a nice person but everyone sees piercings and thinks dont even bother. So Mckenzie's article opens everybodys eyes to what piercings and tattoos really are to some people, a meaning or artwork or an outlet.

  37. I found that Jessica's article was the most interesting. Since I'm a football player I would feel better knowing that the coaches would be aware of any sickness that the player might have.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Mckenzie...I agree with you, especially in football. In this sport you really need to watch out. There are guys that have ruptured their spleens or livers, and their coaches just told them to sit out. You can bleed out in an hour with one of those injuries. Another this is the concussions. There are a lot of guys that get a shot to the head and don't realize how bad it can be. I'm not saying for football players to soften up, but for them to be a little more aware. Concussions are dangerous, but sometimes you could just be dehydrated. A coach can never be too carful, and they should always be on the watch like this one.

  39. Regarding the action figure toy, I feel that action figures resembling cerial killers should not be put on the shelfs of our stores. Usually Toys R Us is a store for children. Even though the action figure said it was for people eighteen and up, does not mean people are going to follow that requriement. Also just because this toy is based on a fictional character does not mean it is good for the younger generation to see, nevermind play with. I agree with what Gio said about being cautious about not letting our younger generation getting hold of these action figures.

  40. I agree with most of these blogs. Most said that the most newsworthy was Jessicas. The article shows how the coach cares a lot about his players and how he stop the practice to make sure of his players safety.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I agree with those who said the football story was the most newsworthy. This coach went out of his way to the kid. He probably did not think it would be as important as saving his life. He was smart with the situation, as the player needed surgery to overcome the hit in the head. It shows that the coach is true to his players then just winning games. It is important for other players to be comfortable to know that they can trust their coach. This coach did not continue practice and have the kid take a rest, and probably no one knew that it would be life or death. Lucky for this player, his coach was selfless, and a good person. Something like this does not happen very much, and is definitely newsworthy.
